Talk Scotland

Glen from Scotland on Monday, 05th January, 2009

As a passenger on the QE2 I was delighted by the welcome in Greenock.  I travelled with my sister and a friend on this final cruise round the UK.  We were very impressed by the boats that followed us up the Firth, the Pipe bands, the crowds - all made us proud to be Scottish. As we are from Paisley it felt as if we were coming home.

We especially liked the welcome at the quayside from the tourist board and the two gentlemen who shook everyone’s hand as they left the ship was very impressive.  I know from the comments of my fellow passengers that our Greenock welcome was greatly admired and appreciated.  The whole day was wonderful and the final fireworks and farewell certainly brought a tear to the eyes of the many Scots on board.

Many thanks to all involved in organising a memorable welcome - especially the sunshine.

‘the Inverclyde Tourist Volunteer Group made our visit to Greenock memorable.’

To all the Ladies and Gentlemen of Inverclyde Tourist Group.

I would like to say a big THANK YOU for the warm welcome we received on 19/July/08 when Norwegian Jade docked at Greenock
What a lovely surprise, to be offered a coach trip.  What a start to a day to remember & treasure.  There is goodness in the world, wonderful folk, doing a very worthwhile voluntary pastime.  Faith in human nature and kindness restored.
We were delighted with our trips ‘Glimpses of Gourock’.  Guides so friendly and informative with a sense of humour.  Plenty of camera opportunities at stops of interest and views of your lovely countryside.
After lunch we were privileged to join the ‘Going East to Newark Castle’ trip.  Again a remarkable trip.  A well educated guide at the Castle, fascinating historian. A lovely sunny afternoon and a Wedding party, and oh those Kilts!  The intrigue, the mystery!!
We have brought home many happy memories of Inverclyde, photographs of beautiful countryside, mountains and vistas.  A lovely place to revisit and explore.
My uneducated vision of (Inverclyde) had been - dockland and not much more, what a misconception!
Most of all, treasured memories of the warmth of your group, the welcome we received and your ‘farewell’.
I do hope everyone appreciated you as we did.  Keep up the good work, God bless you all.
Our last view was of the Cloch Lighthouse and the Gantock Rocks as we sailed from the Clyde, tired and happy.
You really did make our cruise special,
With love and thanks and praise

Think the volunteer tourist group is wonderful for Inverclyde.  Puts VisitScotland (do they do do anything for Inverclyde?) to shame.

Well done - Inverclyde are lucky to have you.
